Fasting is very much in vogue at the moment – according to a recent survey, one in five Americans would like
to try out fasting:
All the same, whether the welfare chamfering after Buchinger,
with which equal several days at the piece are chamfered,
or the up-to-date popular concept of the interval chamfering,
with which only by the hour food is renounced. Fasting has many positive effects.
Due to the lack of energy supply, the body has to rotate its metabolism by 180 degrees.
It sends out many metabolic hormones and altered messenger substances so that the body can
cope with this change. Exactly that brings the health-promoting effects with itself.
Blood pressure levels drop, sugar metabolism improves and many people report that they
feel generally fitter and healthier. A special effect on health is the so-called autophagy.
This is the body’s own cell cleansing, which is triggered by the lack of calorie intake
during fasting after about 12 to 16 hours. During this process, old and damaged cell
components are broken down and used for energy production. The cells thus remain healthy and young.
The process of autophagy therefore plays an increasingly important role in the prevention of age-related
diseases such as dementia and cardiovascular diseases.
However, fasting is not suitable for everyone.
Some people are not allowed
to fast because of previous illnesses. Especially older people should therefore
only fast under medical supervision. But even for those who are allowed to fast,
it is often difficult to implement a fasting method in everyday life on a long-term basis.
However, researchers have discovered the natural, endogenous substance spermidine,
which is contained in high concentrations in wheat germs, for example.
Spermidine activates
the body’s own autophagy and thus imitates parts of the effect of fasting. For this reason,
the food supplement is also suitable as an “extra boost” during fasting or as a partial
supplement if fasting cannot be carried out continuously. These spermidine capsules based on wheat germ
extract are now also available in your pharmacy.
They have already been used as a study medication in a
study conducted by the Charité Berlin and the results were indeed promising:
after only 3 months of
taking them, the participants’ memory performance was measurably improved. However, fasting is not suitable
